Eighteenth Annual Negotiation Competition encourages students to excel : Network News

October 24, 2023 —  Fourteen teams of 3rd-year Robson Hall students competed in the eighteenth annual Robson Hall Negotiation Competition on the evening of October 11th, 2023. Due to their stellar performance, the negotiating team of Nicolas Nudler and Ryan Hall were awarded first place. The runners up, who also did a tremendous job, were Jamie Robertson and Rebecca Penner. Both teams will have the opportunity to represent Robson Hall and compete in the Canadian National Negotiation Competition in the new year.

A Violent History of Benevolence: Dr. Chris Chapman on Social Work History : Network News

October 24, 2023 —  As part of the Baird Poskanzer Memorial Lecture Series, the Faculty of Social Work welcomes Dr. Chris Chapman, associate professor, York University to speak on the history of the social work profession and their book "A Violent History of Benevolence: Interlocking Oppression in the Moral Economies of Social Working".  Dr. Chapman will explore how normative social work history is structured in such a way that contemporary social workers can know many details about social work’s violences, without ever imagining that they may also be complicit in these violences. They will discuss concepts from their book and how the framings of social work history actively create present-day political and ethical irresponsibility, even among those who imagine themselves to be anti-oppressive, liberal, or radical.

October 24, 2023 —  They've walked across the stage in May or October, and now St John's college celebrates the 2022/23 graduating college members on November 5th, 2023. Over the last year, St John's college has given out $180,000 worth of scholarships and bursaries to students across the University of Manitoba who are members of the college.
