Below is a round up of some of the most important cards that were launched or updated and what it means for students.

Financial Aid and Awards Card

 As of October 27, students can now view their financial aid and awards in the new Financial Aid and Awards card in Aurora. Please note that this information is no longer available in Aurora Classic.

The new card is one place to find and manage both general and personalized financial aid details.

Students can use the links in the card to:

• View My Student Aid – Review award details and accept or decline awards.
• Apply for Student Aid – Start a new scholarship or bursary application.
• View My Applications – View or modify existing applications.

Additionally, students can now access their award letters directly from the Financial Aid and Awards card by selecting

• View My Award Letters – View both current and historical award letters.

My Tuition and Fees card

As of November 3, students will use the new My Tuition and Fees card to access their tuition and fee information. This information will no longer have access on Aurora Classic.

They can search for the card using keywords like “tuition” or “fees.” The card is also available on the Aurora Essentials tab of a student’s Aurora dashboard.

The card displays five terms regardless of admission date and includes payment due dates.

  • Self-Service Account Summary document (the RO will no longer be stamping or signing printed copies)

Declare my Major/Minor/Concentration card

Major, Minor and Concentration declarations are moving out of Aurora Classic on Monday, November 3rd. 

In Aurora, students will locate the Declare My Major, Minor, or Concentration card and click on the link.

Important Dates and Deadlines

Course Adds and Drops (Revision Period)

The registration revision period, commonly known as the ‘add and drop’ period, allows you to make course or timetable changes without academic or financial penalties. Dropped courses during this time will not appear on your transcripts, and tuition fees for these courses will be reversed.

• Drop a course deadline: September 16, 2025
• Add a course deadline: September 17, 2025

During the revision period, you can:

• Add a class if a seat becomes available or if you change your mind about a subject
• Register for a course from your waitlist if space becomes available
• Update your residency status in Aurora and receive a fee adjustment if applicable

After the revision period, you can still withdraw from a class, but it will be recorded on your transcript, and you will be responsible to pay for all fees for that course.

Fee Information

Ensure that your tuition is paid by the following deadlines to avoid late fees and holds on your account:

• Fall Term: October 1, 2025.

Access your fee payment information through Aurora and navigating to “View Account Summary by Term Card.” For more details, visit: Fee Payment, Non or Late Payment, Sponsorship Information, Financial Aid & Awards.

Photo Identification(ID) Cards 

The Pop-Up Photo ID Centre will be open at the Fort Garry Campus from August 25th – September 5th in room 102B UMSU University Centre, from 9:00am – 4:00pm daily. 

Check in online to secure your spot in the queue and receive text notifications when it’s your turn. Remember, students do not need a new ID card each year/term. Your ID card is also required to obtain a U-Pass for Winnipeg Transit bus service.

Registrar’s Office

The Registrar’s Office is your main resource for your registration and academic records. Here is the most common start of Term requests: 

• Enrolment verifications
• Personal information updates, such as residence status changes
• Aurora technical help

UM Achieve can help you:

Tax forms

• T2202 – A tuition tax credit, called a T2202 form, is issued to students and is used to claim the Tuition Tax Credit. This form is released annually, usually near the end of February, and is ONLY available online through Aurora. Questions regarding your T2202 should be addressed to the Registrar’s Office.
• T4A – A T4A slip reports income from many different sources. As a student, your T4A slip will report the scholarship or bursary income you received while you were enrolled at the University of Manitoba. Generally, you’ll only receive a T4A slip from the payer of these income sources if the total of the payments was more than $500 in the year or if income tax was deducted from the payments. Questions regarding a T4A slip should be addressed to the Financial Aid and Awards Office.

Social Insurance Numbers (SINs) and Taxes

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has mandated that the University of Manitoba collect the Social Insurance Numbers (SINs) of students. This information is required to produce your T2202 (Tuition and Enrolment Certificate), which is your Canadian tax form.

These tax changes have been in effect since the 2019 tax year, so if you are a returning student and have already added your SIN in Aurora, you do not have to add it again.

How to add your Social Insurance Number (SIN) in Aurora:

1. Login to Aurora.
2. Locate the Verify my SIN card and select ‘Help me verify my SIN’

Please note, if you select the “No Social Insurance Number” option, you are indicating you do not have a valid SIN. All students who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents should have a valid SIN.

Missing or Incorrect SIN: Updates can be made through the Verify my Sin card in Aurora. Once you have updated your SIN in Aurora you must contact the Registrar’s Office for the SIN to be updated on your T2202. Please contact the Registrar’s Office if you have issues updating your SIN.

How to access your tax forms:

Step 1: Log in to Aurora.

Step 2: Locate the ‘Tax Information’ card and select ‘View my Tax information’.

Step 3: Choose the applicable tax form option

• The T4A link will take you to Aurora Classic.
• The T2202 link will take you to the Student Profile where you’ll find a T2202 link in the left-hand menu.

A T2202 is an official statement of the tuition and fees paid for qualifying courses that are eligible for claim on your income tax return. T2202’s will become available the afternoon of Friday, February 28. When accessing a T2202 form, students will be prompted to download the form before viewing. The download process will differ depending on your browser.

A T4A is the official statement of scholarships, bursaries, awards or other income. T4A forms are available now, and will only be issued to you if you have received any of those awards or other forms of income from the university in the 2024 calendar year (January to December).

For more information on the changes to the reporting of tuition, education, and textbooks, refer to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) website. Any in-depth questions regarding the use of tax receipts in the tax preparation process should be directed to CRA.

Tax guides are available from any CRA office or Canada Post Office. CRA also publishes a booklet called “Students & Income Tax” – Government form P105 (E).

• February 5th, 2025

Making A Payment 

Payments can be made from within Canada or from outside of the country. Students will find information on their payment options and detailed payment instructions on the Pay your Tuition page.

Late Fees

After the fee payment deadline, student accounts with an outstanding balance for the term will be assessed the following late fees.

Additionally, unpaid fees can result in a hold on your student account and deregistration from upcoming registered courses.

Viewing My Fees 

You can view your fee statement in your Aurora account. Once you have registered for courses, an official summary of your tuition and fees will be available in Aurora. To check your current balance: 

1. Log in to Aurora. 
2. Locate ‘View Account Summary by Term’ card and select ‘View my Account Summary by Term’
3. Here you will be able to view a detailed summary of your charges

You Should Note That: 

• You will not be sent a fee statement in the mail
• You are responsible for being aware of your fee balance and making payment prior to the deadline
• Your personal fee assessment is available through your Aurora account

You are financially and academically responsible for all courses in which you are registered after the revision deadline.

FEE DEADLINES 

All Winter 2024 tuition and fees need to be paid by:

• February 7th, 2024.

MAKING A PAYMENT

In-person tuition fee payments are made through the Cashier’s Office located at 138 University Centre.

Payments can be made from within Canada or from outside of the country. Students will find information on their payment options and detailed payment instructions on the Pay your Tuition webpage.

LATE FEES

After the fee payment deadline, student accounts with an outstanding balance for the term will be assessed the following late fees.

First late fee, applied on the day following the posted fee deadline:

• $50.

Second late fee, applied on the first of the month following the posted fee deadline:

• $50 on balances between $500 and $1000.
• $100 on balances over $1000.

Additionally, unpaid fees can result in a hold on a student’s account and deregistration from upcoming registered courses.

VIEWING FEES

Students can view their fee statements in their Aurora account. Once registered for courses, an official summary of tuition and fees will be available in Aurora.
Viewing an account balance:

1. Log in to Aurora. 
2. Select ‘Enrolment & Academic Records’.
3. Select ‘Student Records’.
4. Select ‘View Account Summary by Term’.
5. Here, students can view a detailed summary of their charges.
