Construction on Southwood Circle—a mixed-use, multi-family, complete community—has now begun within the former Southwood Golf Course lands. This walkable and vibrant community, located adjacent to the Fort Garry campus, will include residential development alongside retail businesses, restaurants and a variety of amenities.

The first phase of the Southwood Circle development includes riverbank stability, forestry work related to Dutch elm disease, site servicing, and roadway development, which requires dedicated use of the lands east of University Crescent. For safety reasons, current active transportation routes through Southwood Circle have been closed.

The University of Manitoba is working closely with UM Properties Inc. and the City of Winnipeg to provide a safe access route for pedestrians and cyclists, with the closure expected to remain in place through the summer months.

To assist in redirecting active transportation users, the access gate at D’Arcy Dr. into Southwood Circle has now been closed. An alternate active transportation route redirects cyclists and pedestrians down Agassiz Dr. and Thatcher Dr. to the crosswalk at University Crescent.

Signage has been installed on site illustrating this alternate route. UM Properties Inc. and the University of Manitoba are also working with the City of Winnipeg to install street signage along this detour route.

Upcoming construction projects for Southwood Circle include road reconstruction along Sifton Rd. and Dysart Rd. Information regarding closures and detours will be communicated in the coming months.

Additional information can be found on the Southwood Circle website or by contacting Nancy Orris-Snidal at UM Properties Inc. at norris-snidal@umproperties.ca.

For construction updates, visit Southwood Circle on Instagram, Facebook or LinkedIn.
