UM receives $2.5 million for research infrastructure

August 29, 2023 — 
The federal government recently announced the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) recipients of the John R. Evans Leaders Fund (JELF) for fall 2022 and spring 2023. Among the recipients are UM researchers who were awarded $2.5 million for nine research infrastructure projects in fields ranging from internal medicine to biochemistry to food and human nutritional sciences, and much more.

Six UM researchers awarded SSHRC Insight grants

On August 29, 2023, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) announced the recipients of the 2023 Insight Grant Program. Insight Grants support research in its initial stages in the social sciences and humanities sector. Funding is available for research initiatives of two to five years in length to provide stable, long-term support.

Today, the Honourable Francois-Phillippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry announced an investment in Canada Research Chairs (CRCs), including two Chair renewals at the University of Manitoba.

UM receives $12.5 million from feds to advance science research and innovation

The University of Manitoba (UM) is poised to push science research and innovation forward with the announcement of key investments by the Canadian government across more than 150 projects totaling $12.5 million. Notable funding includes $1.4 million to support Arctic science and climate change research, further positioning UM as a leader in this field, as well as an inaugural Excellence in Equity award to Dr. Tina Chen, Executive Lead (Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) at UM.

Are cannabis products safe and effective for reducing symptoms in children with cancer?

A recent analysis led by University of Manitoba researchers of all relevant published studies reveals a lack of evidence to determine the dosing, safety and efficacy of medical marijuana or cannabis-containing products for managing symptoms experienced by children with cancer. The analysis is published by Wiley online in CANCER, a peer-reviewed journal of the American Cancer Society.
