The registration revision period – your last opportunity to make changes to your class schedule without risking financial penalty – is coming up soon.

The registration revision period is the first two weeks of classes in the Fall and Winter Terms. During this period, changes can still be made to your course registrations without any academic or financial penalties.

Revision period dates:

1. Last day to drop courses is: January 19, 2025
2. Last day to add courses is: January 20, 2025

Remember: The last day to add a course falls one day after the last day to drop a course without financial penalty. This means that if you register for a course on the deadline to add courses, you cannot drop the course afterward. You can still voluntarily withdraw from the course, but the course will appear on your transcript with ‘VW’ as the grade and you will be responsible for paying the fees associated with the course.

During the registration revision period…

• You can add and remove courses to create a timetable that suits your needs.
• Courses that you decide to drop or change during this period will not be added to your student records or your academic transcript.
• You will receive a notification if a seat becomes available in a course you are on the waitlist for, and you can then register for it.
• Any changes that you make to your course registration will reflect on your tuition.
• If you drop a course during this period, your fees for that course will be reversed accordingly.

Waitlisted courses and the revision period

During the revision period…

• If you are on the waitlist for a course that you no longer need, please make sure that you drop yourself from the list. This will allow a notification to be sent to the next student on the waitlist without delay

Dropping a course after the revision period

At the end of the Revision period…

• Once the registration revision period is over, you are still able to Voluntary Withdraw (VW) from a course up to a certain date in the term. However, please note that a Voluntary Withdraw will appear on your transcript as a VW and you will still have to pay the tuition associated with the course.

Remember – Think before you drop!

Update your residency status

If you have recently become a permanent resident or a Canadian citizen, then you can update your residency status in your Aurora account. Updating your status during the revision period will enable you to receive a fee adjustment and pay domestic tuition rates for the current term.

Please note that if you have updated your status after the registration revision period, you will be required to pay international rates for the current term and will pay domestic rates for your following term(s).

Steps to Update your Residency status:

1. Login to Aurora.
2. Select ‘Personal Information.’
3. Select ‘Change Residency Status’.
4. From here, follow the steps on the screen and have the required documentation ready to upload.

Not attending UM courses this fall?

If you don’t plan to attend UM, you must drop all courses before the end of the revision period to avoid being charged fees for your courses.

Steps to leave UM:

If you plan to leave UM, make sure you confirm the following information:

1. Remove yourself from any courses and ensure that you do not have any active registration.
2. Check your account summary in Aurora to ensure that you have no outstanding fees.
3. Check your holds in Aurora to ensure you have nothing outstanding.
4. Contact an academic advisor in your faculty/program to ensure that you have no outstanding obligations with them.

Note that this is only one day after students return to classes following reading week.

Before You Withdraw

1. Talk to Your Instructor
   Discuss your concerns with your course instructor. They may have strategies to help you improve before the term ends.
2. Consult Your Academic Advisor
   Meet with your academic advisor to review your course load, study strategies, and options for retaking the course in the future.
3. Know the Requirements
   Be aware of course load requirements and the implications of a VW. If you have a government student loan, are a sponsored student, a Bison athlete, or are in another situation that requires a minimum course load, this is especially important.
4. Check Your Program Requirements
   Refer to the First Year Planning Guide or the Academic Calendar to understand where this course fits into your intended or current program.
5. Consider Prerequisites
   Verify if this course is a prerequisite for upper-level courses in your program.
6. Look at Future Offerings
   Check current and previous Summer Term schedules to see if the course will be offered again this year.

Important Notes on VW and Your Student Record

• No refund will be issued for a course withdrawn via VW.
• VW’d courses will be recorded on official transcripts and student records with a final grade of VW.
• Courses cannot be withdrawn after the VW deadline has passed.

Course Adds and Drops (Revision Period)

The registration revision period, commonly known as the ‘add and drop’ period, allows you to make course or timetable changes without academic or financial penalties. Dropped courses during this time will not appear on your transcripts, and tuition fees for these courses will be reversed.

Fee Information

Ensure that your tuition is paid by the following deadlines to avoid late fees and holds on your account:

Photo Identification(ID) Cards 

The Pop-Up Photo ID Centre will be open at the Fort Garry Campus from August 25th – September 5th in room 102B UMSU University Centre, from 9:00am – 4:00pm daily. 

Check in online to secure your spot in the queue and receive text notifications when it’s your turn. Remember, students do not need a new ID card each year/term. Your ID card is also required to obtain a U-Pass for Winnipeg Transit bus service.

Top Tips for a Successful Registration

Here are some quick tips to make your registration process smooth:

1. Locate the Registration Card
   Start by finding the “Registration” card on your Aurora Landing page—this will be central to your registration process.
   
2. Add Courses One by One
   Register for each course individually. UM’s registration summary won’t hold a spot for you until you complete each action. Registering one class at a time will help secure spots in high-demand courses.
3. Spanned Courses
   You will now be able to recognize term spanning courses with an attribute that labels them “Part A” and “Part B.” To register, start with “Part A,” and the system will automatically enroll you in “Part B” shortly after. Check for any scheduling conflicts across terms, as unresolved conflicts may result in being removed from the course. You’ll receive notifications of any issues through your UM email.
4. Joining the Waitlist
   If a course is full, join the waitlist by selecting “waitlist” in the Action column of your summary and then submitting. You’ll see “waitlisted” under the status column. To check your waitlist position, go to the “Schedule Details” section of your registration page. Under schedule details, you will see in green highlight, “waitlisted”, locate the arrow to the left of the course title to drop down the hidden details that shows your waitlist position.
   
5. Optimized for Desktop
   While you can register on a mobile device, we recommend using a desktop or tablet for the best experience. If you’re using a phone, only one panel will display at a time. Switch between class searches and the registration summary by selecting the “Panel” button at the bottom left, and toggle between “Schedule” “Schedule Details” and “Summary” using the tabs at the top.

Registration Revision Period (Add and Drop Courses)

The registration revision period is considered the ‘add and drop’ period, where you can make changes to your course or timetable without academic or financial penalty. During the registration revision period, you can:

• Add a new course if you changed your mind about your courses, or if a course that was previously full is now available. 
• Register in a course for which you were waitlisted if you receive notification that space is available.
• Update your residency status in your Aurora account and receive a fee adjustment*

Once the registration revision period ends, you can still Voluntarily Withdraw from a class, however, a VW will be recorded on your transcript, and you will not receive a tuition refund.

Each term, an official summary of your tuition and fees is posted in your Aurora account. To check your current balance:

1. Log into the Aurora launch page
2. Locate and select the “view account summary by term” card.
3. Review your account information
4. You can pay your tuition and fees by selecting the payment options at the bottom of your summary.

Photo ID (Identification) Cards

Photo ID cards are issued in-person at the Registrar’s Office on the 4^th floor of UMSU University Centre.

• Hours of operation are:
  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Wednesday 9:30 AM – 4:00 PM
• If you already have a Photo ID card you do not need a new one each year/term.
• Photo ID cards are required to obtain a U-Pass for Winnipeg Transit bus service. There is no U-Pass in the summer but keep your Peggo card! No one will be charged a U-Pass fee in their tuition during the summer session. If you remain a full-time student in the Fall term, your U-Pass Peggo card will stay active and automatically reload on September 1st. You can load your own product on your U-Pass Peggo card during the Summer Term. Visit the Winnipeg Transit website to view available Post-Secondary products. If it is your turn to register, your ‘Waitlist Position’ will be ‘0’ and will be accompanied by a ‘Notification Expires’ date and time; this is your deadline to register for the course.

Waitlist Notification

Instructions on how to register in a course once you received an email notification of a space available to register for. 

Removing a waitlisted course

During the registration revision period (usually the first 2 weeks of the term), if you no longer require your waitlisted seat, remove yourself from the waitlist to open space for other students.

Waitlist functionality is inactivated at the end of the registration revision period and waitlisted courses are no longer displayed on your Aurora account.

Do not remove yourself from a Waitlist after the last day to DROP a course. Students will be automatically removed from Waitlists.

REGISTERING

Registration access times for students at the Bannatyne and Fort Garry campuses will be available in your Aurora Account on March 17.

To access your registration time:

1. Log into Aurora.
2. Select the “Open Registration Dashboard” card.
3. Select ‘Registration Time and Status’.
4. Choose the Academic Term from the dropdown menu to see your registration access time.

Once it is your registration date and time, you will only have that day to register. Beginning March 28^th at 1:00 p.m. CST, you will have 24/7 access until the last date to register.

If you can’t access your registration, make sure you are accessing Aurora during your registration access time. 

Once registration opens, you will have 24/7 access to register for courses in Aurora until registration closes.

HOLDS

It’s a good idea to check if you have any holds or if your student status prevents registration. Make sure you clear these up before your date to register.

REVISION PERIOD

In summer term, the last date to drop a course and the last date to add a course are the same date. To help prepare you, please take note of these important deadlines found on the Important Dates and Deadlines page.

WAITLISTS

Waitlists for Summer Term will open on March 28th at 1:00 p.m. CST. It is very important that all students claim their UM email account and keep it in good standing in order to receive Waitlist notifications. Once open, Waitlist Notifications are enabled 24/7.

• If you want to switch course sections, please contact your Advisor. You may not be able to switch sections when a course has a waitlist.
• If you miss the deadline to register for a waitlisted course you will need to re-register for the waitlist.

TUITION

Since courses span different parts of the term, there are two tuition fee deadlines for Summer term. The tuition payment deadline for courses beginning in May is May 21st 2025. This includes both May-June and May-August courses. The deadline for July-August courses is July 16 2025.

Students have 3 extra days to ADD a course during the Registration Revision period:

• Course Drop Date for Winter term courses is January 17, which is the last date to drop a course with a refund.
• Course Add Date for Winter term is January 20, which is the last date to add a course in the revision period.

What does revision period mean to you?  

• If you add a course on the last day, there is no refund if you decide to drop it. 
• If you stay in a course past the last day of the revision period, Jan. 20, you will have to pay for it. You will still be able to Voluntarily Withdraw (VW) but you will not receive a refund.
• Students who do not drop their courses will be required to pay the full tuition and fees for all courses in which they remain registered even if they do not attend classes. If you are not attending the U of M this term, you must drop your courses before the end of the revision period. 

IF you are on a waitlist? Don’t remove yourself, you will automatically be removed from waitlists on Jan. 21.

Remember, the last day to pay your fees is February 5.
