Course Adds and Drops (Revision Period)

The registration revision period, commonly known as the ‘add and drop’ period, allows you to make course or timetable changes without academic or financial penalties. Dropped courses during this time will not appear on your transcripts, and tuition fees for these courses will be reversed.

• Drop a course deadline: September 16, 2025
• Add a course deadline: September 17, 2025

During the revision period, you can:

• Add a class if a seat becomes available or if you change your mind about a subject
• Register for a course from your waitlist if space becomes available
• Update your residency status in Aurora and receive a fee adjustment if applicable

After the revision period, you can still withdraw from a class, but it will be recorded on your transcript, and you will be responsible to pay for all fees for that course.

Fee Information

Ensure that your tuition is paid by the following deadlines to avoid late fees and holds on your account:

• Fall Term: October 1, 2025.

Access your fee payment information through Aurora and navigating to “View Account Summary by Term Card.” For more details, visit: Fee Payment, Non or Late Payment, Sponsorship Information, Financial Aid & Awards.

Photo Identification(ID) Cards 

The Pop-Up Photo ID Centre will be open at the Fort Garry Campus from August 25th – September 5th in room 102B UMSU University Centre, from 9:00am – 4:00pm daily. 

Check in online to secure your spot in the queue and receive text notifications when it’s your turn. Remember, students do not need a new ID card each year/term. Your ID card is also required to obtain a U-Pass for Winnipeg Transit bus service.

Registrar’s Office

The Registrar’s Office is your main resource for your registration and academic records. Here is the most common start of Term requests:

The Academic Calendar is a comprehensive publication  that outlines what is needed to get a degree. Inside, you will find:

There are three versions of the Academic Calendar— undergraduate, graduate and one for programs and courses offered through Université de Saint-Boniface. Look at courses for both Fall and Winter Terms and plan registration for both.

REGISTERING

Registration access times for students at the Bannatyne and Fort Garry campuses will be available in your Aurora Account on March 17.

To access your registration time:

1. Log into Aurora.
2. Select the “Open Registration Dashboard” card.
3. Select ‘Registration Time and Status’.
4. Choose the Academic Term from the dropdown menu to see your registration access time.

Once it is your registration date and time, you will only have that day to register. Beginning March 28^th at 1:00 p.m. CST, you will have 24/7 access until the last date to register.

If you can’t access your registration, make sure you are accessing Aurora during your registration access time. 

Once registration opens, you will have 24/7 access to register for courses in Aurora until registration closes.

HOLDS

It’s a good idea to check if you have any holds or if your student status prevents registration. Make sure you clear these up before your date to register.

REVISION PERIOD

In summer term, the last date to drop a course and the last date to add a course are the same date. To help prepare you, please take note of these important deadlines found on the Important Dates and Deadlines page.

WAITLISTS

Waitlists for Summer Term will open on March 28th at 1:00 p.m. CST. It is very important that all students claim their UM email account and keep it in good standing in order to receive Waitlist notifications. Once open, Waitlist Notifications are enabled 24/7.

• If you want to switch course sections, please contact your Advisor. You may not be able to switch sections when a course has a waitlist.
• If you miss the deadline to register for a waitlisted course you will need to re-register for the waitlist.

TUITION

Since courses span different parts of the term, there are two tuition fee deadlines for Summer term. The tuition payment deadline for courses beginning in May is May 21st 2025. This includes both May-June and May-August courses. The deadline for July-August courses is July 16 2025.

Tax forms

• T2202 – A tuition tax credit, called a T2202 form, is issued to students and is used to claim the Tuition Tax Credit. This form is released annually, usually near the end of February, and is ONLY available online through Aurora. Questions regarding your T2202 should be addressed to the Registrar’s Office.
• T4A – A T4A slip reports income from many different sources. As a student, your T4A slip will report the scholarship or bursary income you received while you were enrolled at the University of Manitoba. Generally, you’ll only receive a T4A slip from the payer of these income sources if the total of the payments was more than $500 in the year or if income tax was deducted from the payments. Questions regarding a T4A slip should be addressed to the Financial Aid and Awards Office.

Social Insurance Numbers (SINs) and Taxes

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has mandated that the University of Manitoba collect the Social Insurance Numbers (SINs) of students. This information is required to produce your T2202 (Tuition and Enrolment Certificate), which is your Canadian tax form.

These tax changes have been in effect since the 2019 tax year, so if you are a returning student and have already added your SIN in Aurora, you do not have to add it again.

How to add your Social Insurance Number (SIN) in Aurora:

1. Login to Aurora.
2. Locate the Verify my SIN card and select ‘Help me verify my SIN’

Please note, if you select the “No Social Insurance Number” option, you are indicating you do not have a valid SIN. All students who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents should have a valid SIN.

Missing or Incorrect SIN: Updates can be made through the Verify my Sin card in Aurora. Once you have updated your SIN in Aurora you must contact the Registrar’s Office for the SIN to be updated on your T2202. Please contact the Registrar’s Office if you have issues updating your SIN.

How to access your tax forms:

Step 1: Log in to Aurora.

Step 2: Locate the ‘Tax Information’ card and select ‘View my Tax information’.

Step 3: Choose the applicable tax form option

• The T4A link will take you to Aurora Classic.
• The T2202 link will take you to the Student Profile where you’ll find a T2202 link in the left-hand menu.

A T2202 is an official statement of the tuition and fees paid for qualifying courses that are eligible for claim on your income tax return. T2202’s will become available the afternoon of Friday, February 28. When accessing a T2202 form, students will be prompted to download the form before viewing. The download process will differ depending on your browser.

A T4A is the official statement of scholarships, bursaries, awards or other income. T4A forms are available now, and will only be issued to you if you have received any of those awards or other forms of income from the university in the 2024 calendar year (January to December).

For more information on the changes to the reporting of tuition, education, and textbooks, refer to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) website. Any in-depth questions regarding the use of tax receipts in the tax preparation process should be directed to CRA.

Tax guides are available from any CRA office or Canada Post Office. CRA also publishes a booklet called “Students & Income Tax” – Government form P105 (E).

February Graduation

There is no convocation ceremony in February, however, February 2025 graduates are invited to participate in the Spring 2025 Convocation. More information will follow this spring.

36^th Annual Traditional Graduation Pow Wow

Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, Inuit) students graduating in February 2025 are invited to participate in the 36^th Annual Traditional Graduation Pow Wow on May 3, 2025.

Parchment Delivery

Parchments will be sent through regular mail (Canada Post) to the graduates’ addresses as listed in Aurora. Parchments are sent two weeks after the graduation date, which is February 5, 2024.

Other ways to receive your Parchment

1. Parchment pick-up:
   • Students have the option to pick up their parchment or have someone else collect it on their behalf, please submit a completed Parchment Delivery Request Form to   Convocation@umanitoba.ca.
   • The deadline to submit the Parchment Delivery form is Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
   • Parchments will be available for pick-up approximately 2 weeks after your graduation date, which is February 5^th.
2. Pre-arranged request for courier or express mail:
   • Students are welcome to provide us with a pre-paid courier or express mail envelope along with detailed mailing instructions using the Parchment Delivery Request Form.
   • The University of Manitoba will hold unclaimed parchments for a maximum of 12 months after graduation, including those returned to us as undeliverable. We will destroy any unclaimed parchments after 12 months.
   • If a student does not receive their parchment, it is their responsibility to follow up with the Registrar’s Office within 12 months. Any requests for a parchment after this time will be processed as a Request for Replacement Parchment, at the cost of $81.25 (subject to change).

Eligibility to Graduate Letters

A Confirmation of Eligibility to Graduate letter can be ordered for students who have declared their intent to graduate but have not yet graduated.

This document includes the student’s full name, the degree they are expecting to receive and the date of their expected graduation.

This document is $13.00 and may take a minimum of two weeks to process. The fee is subject to change.

How to request Eligibility to Graduate Letters.

Confirmation of Degree Awarded Letters

Confirmation of Degree Awarded letters can only be ordered for graduates of the University of Manitoba. This document can be used for visa permits, post-docs, and convocation invitation letters, for February graduates. This document includes the student’s full name, the degree conferred, and the date of graduation.

This document is $13.00 and may take up to ten business days. The fee is subject to change.

Students who have declared graduation but have not yet graduated will need an Eligibility to Graduate letter.

How to request Confirmation of Degree Awarded.

Accounts and AURORA ACCESS

Even after graduation, students will always have access to their Aurora account. If locked out of Aurora, please contact the Registrar’s Office to regain access.

Most document orders need to be made through Aurora.

Email account:

As a graduate of the University of Manitoba, Microsoft Office 365 (M365) OneDrive access will be discontinued 120 days after the end of the last class you were registered in. Email accounts will transition to an email-only alumni account. All other tools such as Office and OneDrive access will be discontinued.

Students will have 120 days to access and download any files and folders they want to save. Once OneDrive access has been deactivated, the remaining data within OneDrive will be removed, and UM will not be able to recover it.

We recommend copying any important information from OneDrive. Visit our Microsoft 365 page for instructions to download OneDrive files.

Even for students who do not plan to continue using a UM email account for email, there are benefits to keeping the account active. Graduates from UM will likely need to order official transcripts for employers, professional organizations, or applications to other educational institutions. The simplest way to order a transcript is through Aurora. Aurora access is also necessary to obtain T2202 tax forms. In order to maintain access to Aurora, it is necessary to maintain access to your UM email account.

To ensure email access continues after graduation, students are required to change their password and reaccept the Computer Accounts – Usage Agreement every 12 months. If this agreement is not reaccepted every 12 months, the email account will also be deleted.

In November 2024, registration was moved to New Aurora. This means that students will now have to register for courses using the New Aurora system, since registration is no longer available in Aurora Classic.

This is a big transition that will take getting used to. That’s why the University has produced an array of helpful resources to help with Registration in New Aurora.
