Power Restored Across Fort Garry Campus

UPDATE: As of 7:20 AM on May 7, power has been restored across campus and all of the impacted buildings are now open.

The Fort Garry Campus has been experiencing a large scale power outage since approximately 7:40 PM on May 6. The duration of the outage is expected to be between 8 to 12 hours.

Physical Plant’s electrical department is aware of the issue and is working diligently to rectify the problem; the list will be updated accordingly as buildings go back online.

Below is a list of buildings currently without power:

Fitzgerald Building
Helen Glass Building
St. John’s College
St. John’s College Residence
University Stadium
St. Paul’s College
Education Building
Wallace Building
North Generator Building

Physical Plant message on Fort Garry campus power bump

The following is a message from Physical Plant on April 24, 2018:

At approximately 12:45 p.m. today, the Fort Garry Campus experienced a power bump which knocked out power to a large portion of the campus for approximately 10 seconds.

The power bump originated on the Manitoba Hydro side of the electrical grid, causing a loss of power to one of three main power transformers on campus.

The power has been automatically reset on the University side of the grid and appears to be working normally. More than half the campus was affected, so individual notices may not address all departments impacted. Departments with sensitive equipment and ultra-cold storage are encouraged to check the operation of their devices.

Operations and Maintenance (O&M) will be resetting all the fire alarm panels that went down with the outage. Any anomalies are to be reported to the O&M Customer Service Desk at ppwod@umanitoba.ca or 204-474-6281.

Buildings reopen on Fort Garry campus

UPDATE – 6:30 p.m, April 2: Physical Plant has indicated that all buildings affected by the power outage will be reopened this evening and normal operations will resume Tuesday, April 3.

Classes that take place in the following buildings on the Fort Garry campus will be cancelled for April 2, 2018 due to a power outage:

Helen Glass Building
Biological Sciences Building
Fitzgerald Building
Wallace Building
Education Building
St. John’s College and Residence
St. Paul’s College

All classes normally held in these buildings are cancelled for Monday, April 2. It is anticipated that power will be restored sometime on Monday and regular activity will resume on Tuesday, April 3. Students and instructors should watch for further notices.

Students in the residence have been relocated to other accommodations.

Staff in the affected buildings can check the disruption page for updates and, where possible, contact their supervisors for more information.
