Students are encouraged to register to repeat a course as soon as possible if they are subject to the Limited Access policy.  

What is Limited Access?

Limited Access is a registration rule that gives priority to students who are taking the course for the first time. If a student would like to repeat a course they’ve previously completed or VW’d, they will be subject to Limited Access in that course (or its equivalent).

Limited Access only applies for three consecutive terms following when you last completed or withdrew from the specific course.

As a UM student, you’re able to access UM Achieve. UM Achieve is a software accessible through JUMP, which allows you to run a degree audit to see how many courses you’ve completed so far within your degree requirements.  UM Achieve is linked to Aurora, and any time you add/drop a course, you can run a new audit and your recent course changes will be reflected.

If you’re unsure about your course selection, visit an Academic Advisor and discuss your options before the November 18 Fall Term Voluntary Withdrawal (VW) deadline. Consider Distance and Online Education (DE) courses or a Summer Term course, it’s a great way to lighten your course load during Fall and Winter Terms. Remember, all VW courses will be subject to Limited Access.

Important Dates:

• Monday November 18, 2019 – Fall 2019 Term Voluntary Withdrawal (VW) Deadline.
• Wednesday, November 20, 2019 – Registration Opens for Winter/Summer term spanning DE courses.
• Monday March 16, 2020 – Summer Term Registration Access Times viewable in Aurora.
• Monday, March 23, 2020 – Registration Opens for Summer Term courses.

Did you miss getting into the course you need? Don’t worry, there is still an opportunity to sign up for courses!

Reserved Space

Space in course sections may be reserved for students in specific programs until Wednesday, August 7 at 9:00 am.

Unused reserved spaces will be available to eligible students after the reserve has been lifted. All reserve details including dates and number of spaces will be made available on the Class Schedule.

Limited Access Expiry Fall Term

The Limited Access Term Expiry Date for Fall Term 2019 courses is Friday, August 9 at 9:00 am.

You are encouraged to register to repeat a course as soon as the Limited Access Term Expiry Date has been reached, space permitting.

Waitlists

Select courses will include a Waitlist function, allowing students to be added to a waitlist and notified when space becomes available. It is very important that all students claim their U of M email account to receive waitlist notifications.

If you are on a waitlist for a fall term course do not drop yourself from the waitlist. All students will be removed from waitlists automatically after the revision deadline.

Revision Period Staggered Drop and Add Dates:

The Course Drop Date is one working day prior to the Course Add Date. The dates below pertain to regularly scheduled courses. Irregularly scheduled courses may have different dates.

• Students can drop a Fall Term or Fall/Winter Term course using Aurora until Tuesday, September 17
• Students can register in a Fall Term or Fall/Winter Term course using Aurora until Wednesday, September 18

Registering

Students can access their registration time in Aurora Student. Here’s how:

1. Log in into Aurora Student, from the ‘Enrolment and Academic Records’ tab, click on ‘Registration & Exams’, then ‘Registration Time and Status.’
2. Choose the term you want to verify your eligibility for from the drop down menu.

Once it is your registration date and time, you will have 24/7 access to the registration system until the final registration date for that course. 

The Summer Term Limited Access Term Expiry Date is Tuesday April 2 if you wish to repeat a course taken in Summer Term 2018 and later.

Waitlists

Select courses will include a Waitlist function, allowing students to be added to a Waitlist and notified when a space becomes available. It is very important that all students claim their U of M email account in order to receive Waitlist notifications.

Students wishing to drop or change a lab must see an advisor to make the changes or else they run the risk of losing their space and ending up at the bottom of the Waitlist.
