Auto Evolution: Black Hole Conveniently Warps Spacetime Into a Football on the Eve of Super Bowl LVIII

“A spinning black hole is like a rocket on the launch pad,” said in a statement Biny Sebastian, a co-author of the research from the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada. “Once material gets close enough, it’s like someone has fueled the rocket and hit the ‘launch’ button.”

If that happens astronomers expect the spin of the black hole to generate more powerful outflows. They are spectacular, true, but they may seem too far away (after all, 26,000 light-years is a distance impossible to comprehend) to have an effect on us.

Astronomers however say that if Sagittarius A starts generating huge collimated jets, the gas supply for the entire galaxy could be impacted. That, in turn, will affect how fast new stars are formed or, in extreme cases, might even prevent new ones from being born.

During Black History Month this February, we salute some of the black players who have played significant roles in the Blue Bombers’ long history.

Today: Tom Casey – running back, defensive back, punter from 1950-55.

Tom Casey had come west to Winnipeg from the Hamilton Wildcats for the 1950 season, just as much for the opportunity to study medicine at the University of Manitoba Medical College as to play with the Blue Bombers.

3 Down Nation: Manitoba Bisons’ OL Mark Rauhaus wins Russ Jackson Award

University of Manitoba offensive lineman Mark Rauhaus has won the prestigious Russ Jackson Award for his excellence in athletics, academics and community service.

Rauhaus beat out McMaster’s Alex Cheng and Acadia’s Spencer Richards for the award, becoming just the third Bisons player to win U Sports’ highest prize.

“Mark carries himself with the utmost integrity and is a role model to the young players in our program. His influence on those around him is all encompassing, he helps bring out the best athlete and person in those around him, often serving as a moral compass,” Bisons’ head coach Brian Dobie said in a statement.

Bisons’ kicker, Maya Turner, makes history becoming first woman to play, score in regular-season U Sports football game

Manitoba Bisons’ kicker, Maya Turner, made history on Saturday becoming the first woman to play and score in a regular-season U Sports football game. She kicked two field goals, including the game-winner in overtime, taking the Bisons’ to a 27-24 victory over the University of Regina Rams at IG Field.
She spoke to several local and national media outlets about this historic moment and what it meant to her.

Coach Brian Dobie has said the CFL has reached out to wanting to mark the moment by asking if any of Turner’s gear could be donated to the hall of fame for a future display.
