Fee Deadlines 

All Winter 2025 tuition and fees need to be paid by

• February 5th, 2025

Making A Payment 

Payments can be made from within Canada or from outside of the country. Students will find information on their payment options and detailed payment instructions on the Pay your Tuition page.

Late Fees

After the fee payment deadline, student accounts with an outstanding balance for the term will be assessed the following late fees.

Additionally, unpaid fees can result in a hold on your student account and deregistration from upcoming registered courses.

Viewing My Fees 

You can view your fee statement in your Aurora account. Once you have registered for courses, an official summary of your tuition and fees will be available in Aurora. To check your current balance: 

1. Log in to Aurora. 
2. Locate ‘View Account Summary by Term’ card and select ‘View my Account Summary by Term’
3. Here you will be able to view a detailed summary of your charges

You Should Note That: 

• You will not be sent a fee statement in the mail
• You are responsible for being aware of your fee balance and making payment prior to the deadline
• Your personal fee assessment is available through your Aurora account

You are financially and academically responsible for all courses in which you are registered after the revision deadline.

• $50.

Registering
Students can access their registration time in Aurora. Here’s how:

1. Log in into Aurora, from the ‘Enrolment and Academic Records’ tab, click on ‘Registration & Exams’, then ‘Registration Time and Status.’
2. Choose the term for which you want to verify your eligibility for from the drop down menu.

Returning students: Make sure you check your account status early and clear any holds that may prevent you from registration at your registration time.

Once it is your registration date and time, you will have 24/7 access to the registration system until the final registration date for that course. 

• Bison Athletes, students authorized for early registration with Accessibility Services, President’s Scholars and Leaders of Tomorrow begin registering Monday, July 8.
• New students begin registering Tuesday, July 9.
• Returning students begin registering Thursday, July 18.

The Fall Term Limited Access Term Expiry Date is August 9, if you wish to repeat a course taken in Fall 2018 and later.

The Winter Term Limited Access Term Expiry Date is December 2, if you wish to repeat a course taken in Winter 2019 and later.

Waitlists
Select courses will include a Waitlist function, allowing students to be added to a waitlist and notified when a space becomes available. For Fall 2019 and Winter 2020 there are a few changes to be aware of:

1. You will not be able to:

• register in a course and join a waitlist for another section(s) of the same course
• join a waitlist for a course that creates a time conflict with a course you are already registered in.

Instead, you must choose whether to register or be added to a waitlist.

2. Notifications of available spaces will be sent out continuously every day of the week.

3. It is very IMPORTANT that all students claim their U of M email account in order to receive Waitlist notifications.

Don’t forget to check and pay your fees!

• After registering, use Aurora to obtain your fee assessment – you will not be sent a statement in the mail.

• Winter 2020 Tuition and Fee payment deadline is February 4, 2020

How do I check my hold status: 

1. Log in into your Aurora
2. Select Student Records, and then
3. Select View Holds. From there you will be able to determine the type of hold you have.

 What kind of hold do I have?

• Typically, holds will fall into two categories, academic or administrative
  • Academic holds are often a result of a required transit from U1 into the Faculty of Arts or Science, a lack of a Major, Minor, and/or Concentration declarations, or a pending disciplinary action.
  • Administrative holds are a result of unpaid tuition and/or other university fees, outstanding library books, parking fines and/or other fines.

What do I do?

Don’t ignore it! Particularly if this is an academic hold, your Academic Advisor can help.  If you need help understanding the hold, or you want to talk about your options, these are the best people to see.

When it comes to paying your tuition fees, you need to clear that up immediately. Students with outstanding balances may have been de-registered (withdrawn) from their courses and been placed on hold. Again, if you have any issues with your account, see your advisor, please don’t suffer in silence. In certain cases, your advisor may be able to help you get off hold and into classes.

To clear up other outstanding balances, you need to contact the appropriate office. For example, parking fines are paid with parking services, material fees accrued within the faculty, school or college are paid directly to them.

What if I just ignore it?

It is not a good idea to put it off or ignore a hold on your account. Address things as soon as possible! 

The hold is lifted – now what?

Once your account is back in good standing, you may find that you were removed from some courses.  If the courses are full now, you should consult with an Academic Advisor.  Run a degree audit in UM Achieve to match your completed and current courses against the degree requirements, it’s linked to Aurora so any time you add/drop a course, you can run a new audit and your recent course changes will be reflected in the new report.
