Perry named CHRR Director

Historian Dr. Adele Perry has been appointed director of the Centre for Human Rights Research (CHRR) effective July 1, 2020. She takes over from founding director and law professor Karen Busby.

A Legacy of Human Rights Research

When the Canadian Museum for Human Rights broke ground in 2009, Prof. Karen Busby was tasked with helping make the University of Manitoba a top choice for students and scholars of human rights. She agreed to spend six months consulting across campuses to come up with a plan. Eleven years later, Busby is stepping down as founding director of the university’s Centre for Human Rights Research, formally established in 2012.

Hot off the University of Toronto Press, Reinventing Bankruptcy Law: A History of the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act by Robson Hall's Assistant Professor Dr. Virginia Torrie, is essential reading for the Canadian insolvency community as well as those interested in Canadian institutions, legal history, and the dynamics of change.

Mammoth case law project complete

With extreme patience, diligence, organization and co-ordination, two Robson Hall law students have completed a "mammoth" case law annotation project that will benefit both Crown prosecutors and defence lawyers, and members of the judiciary.

The idea of getting months and sometimes years of research across in only three minutes, is daunting. Kevin Sharma will bravely attempt this feat when he represents the Faculty of Law in the upcoming 3MT heats on February 27th.

Nuclear non-proliferation concerns transcend time after 50 years

“I predict that when this box is opened the world will have survived a large scale nuclear war,” began University of Manitoba law professor Dale Gibson, in his letter to the future in September, 1969. Fifty-years later, the Faculty's Dean is a recognized expert on Nuclear law.
