All Winter 2025 tuition and fees need to be paid by

• February 5th, 2025

Making A Payment 

Payments can be made from within Canada or from outside of the country. Students will find information on their payment options and detailed payment instructions on the Pay your Tuition page.

Late Fees

After the fee payment deadline, student accounts with an outstanding balance for the term will be assessed the following late fees.

Additionally, unpaid fees can result in a hold on your student account and deregistration from upcoming registered courses.

Viewing My Fees 

You can view your fee statement in your Aurora account. Once you have registered for courses, an official summary of your tuition and fees will be available in Aurora. To check your current balance: 

1. Log in to Aurora. 
2. Locate ‘View Account Summary by Term’ card and select ‘View my Account Summary by Term’
3. Here you will be able to view a detailed summary of your charges

You Should Note That: 

• You will not be sent a fee statement in the mail
• You are responsible for being aware of your fee balance and making payment prior to the deadline
• Your personal fee assessment is available through your Aurora account

Tax Forms

A tuition tax credit, called a T2202 form, is issued to students and is used to claim the Tuition Tax Credit. This form is released annually, near the end of February, and is ONLY available online through Aurora.

Tax Tips

If your SIN (Social Insurance Number) is incorrect, or Aurora indicates that you need to update your SIN, you must contact the Registrar’s Office or Extended Education to have it corrected.

Do not send your SIN to us – instead, please contact us by phone or email and we will assist you in updating your SIN securely.

For more information on the changes to the reporting of tuition, education, and textbooks, refer to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) website. Any in-depth questions regarding the use of tax receipts in the tax preparation process should be directed to CRA.

How are tuition and fees assessed?

Tuition and fees at UM vary by faculty and program of study. Some tuition rates and fees are charged by credit hour, while others are charged per term or year. Some programs include endowment fees and/or additional student organization fees. Your fees will differ depending on the specifics of your registration and the program that you are enrolled in.

Reading Account Summaries

Once you have navigated to the Account Summary by Term page in Aurora, you will be given the option to select a fee statement to view:

This menu allows you to select which fee statement you would like to view.

• Term Account Balance: This section shows the amount owed per term.
• Payment Deadlines: Displays the fee payment deadline for each respective term that you have been assessed tuition.
• Account Balance: Displays the overall balance on your account.
  • If this balance is a positive value (i.e., $150), this would be the amount owed to the school.
  • If this balance is a negative value (i.e., -$70), this would mean that have overpaid into your account. A negative balance is a credit owed to you.

If you would like to see a detailed breakdown for a specific term, select one of the linked terms under ‘Term Account Balance’. You will be brought to an account summary for that term:

An account summary will break down all the fees assessed and owed for that term (i.e., all fees assessed and owed for Fall 2022). This summary will display:

• Term Charges: Term charges is the total of all the charges on your account summary. It is the total amount charged for that term.
• Refunds: This displays any refunds processed for that term.
• Credits: Credits reflect the amount you have paid into your account.
• Term Balance: Reflects the remaining balance for the term.
• Balance Due: Reflects the amount owing to pay for that term, regarding both credits and refunds.

UPCOMING DEADLINES

Feb 28, 2022 – VW Date for Fall/Winter Term spanning courses *

Feb 28, 2022 – Last day to DROP Winter Term and Winter/Summer Term spanning courses without penalty

March 8, 2022 – Winter Term Fee Payment Deadline

April 25, 2022 – VW Date for Winter Term courses

* If you withdraw from a Fall/Winter Term spanning course before the VW date, you will receive a VW for the course, but you will not be charged the Winter Term portion of the fees.

COURSE DELIVERY

Aurora now has classroom assignments for the Winter Term.

Courses in Winter Term are being delivered in several different formats. The delivery method is indicated in Aurora and on the class schedule as follows:

• Courses marked RL (Remote Learning) are courses that are being delivered entirely remotely.
• Courses marked DE (distance education) are courses that are being delivered entirely online.
• Courses with rooms assigned will resume in person on Feb 28.
• Courses marked TBA are courses that will be delivered in-person with the physical location to be announced before February 28.

Tax season tips

SOCIAL INSURANCE NUMBERS (SIN) AND TAXES

As many students know, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has made it mandatory for the University of Manitoba to collect the Social Insurance Numbers (SINs) of students. This information is required to produce your T2202 (Tuition and Enrolment Certificate), which is your Canadian tax form.

These tax changes have been in effect since the 2019 tax year, so if you are a returning student and have already added your SIN in Aurora, you do not have to add it again.

How to add your Social Insurance Number (SIN) in Aurora:

1. Login to Aurora.
2. Select ‘Personal Information’.
3. Select ‘Verify my SIN’.

Please note, if you select the “No Social Insurance Number” option, you are indicating you do not have a valid SIN. All students who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents should have a valid SIN.

If your SIN is incorrect, or Aurora says you need to update your SIN, you must contact the Registrar’s Office or Extended Education to have it corrected. Do not send your SIN to us – instead, please contact us by phone, live chat, or email and we will assist you in updating your SIN securely through Aurora.
