<p>Whether they are reducing waste at events, embedding sustainability into their curriculum or promoting sustainability among their colleagues, there are many incredible individuals and teams making a difference in sustainability.</p>
<p>The <strong>UM Sustainability Awards</strong> recognize and celebrate the collaborative efforts of University of Manitoba students, faculty and staff in advancing our commitment to excellence and leadership in sustainability. Sustainability Award winners create MomentUM by advancing knowledge that matters, empowering learners, and reimagining engagement through their campus sustainability efforts.</p>
<p>The UM Sustainability Awards recognize recipients in the following categories:</p>
<ul>
<li>Undergraduate sustainability award</li>
<li>Graduate sustainability award</li>
<li>Student group sustainability award</li>
<li>Staff sustainability award</li>
<li>Faculty sustainability award</li>
<li>Collaborative sustainability award</li>
</ul>
<p>Past sustainability award winners have woven environmental and social sustainability concepts into their teaching, focused on sustainable landscapes, energy and food systems in their research, and led impactful projects to advance sustainability on- and off-campus.</p>
<p>The <strong>deadline for nominations is March 7</strong>. Applications will be reviewed, and award recipients will be selected by the UM Sustainability Committee. The 2025 winners will be announced in Spring.</p>

<p>The UM Sustainability Awards recognize and celebrate the collaborative efforts of University of Manitoba students, faculty and staff in advancing our commitment to excellence and leadership in sustainability.</p>
<p>Past sustainability awards have recognized a collaboration of UM community members who transformed an underutilized courtyard into an ecologically sustainable garden, a long-time faculty member whose teaching on the Sustainable Development Goals has influenced countless graduates to enter the fields of planning and sustainability, an energetic student group that is helping to solve food inaccessibility in Canada’s northernmost communities, and many more impressive projects and community members.</p>
<p>The sixth annual UM Sustainability Awards offer the opportunity to be recognized in the following categories:</p>
<ul>
<li>Undergraduate sustainability</li>
<li>Graduate sustainability</li>
<li>Student group sustainability</li>
<li>Staff sustainability</li>
<li>Faculty sustainability</li>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Application deadline: March 15, 2024.</strong></p>
<p>The Manitoba Medical Service Foundation and the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba invite applications from individuals, as candidates for the MMSF Shaun Lamoureux and Kerry Bittner Clinical Research Professorship in Population Health Award, effective July 1, 2024. The intent of the award is to attract and retain clinicians into population health research at the University of Manitoba for the general benefit of health research in Manitoba. Individuals who have previously held or currently hold such an award will not be eligible for the MMSF Award.</p>
<p>Candidates must be physicians or health care professionals licensed to practice inManitoba, have a faculty appointment at the University of Manitoba and must be engaged in research related to the health of populations in Manitoba. To be successful, a candidate must be considered to be in the early stages of a successful research career as a health care professional scientist. This judgment will be based on qualifications and experience. Candidates must have been engaged in independent research in population health for not more than 7 years, should have received one or more grants from a national granting agency, such as the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and should have a satisfactory publication record in peer-reviewed journals.</p>
<p>The Award is given for a period of three years. It may not be held concurrently with another personal career award and is not renewable. The award consists of a contribution of $55,000 per annum to the awardee&#8217;s salary during the three-year term. During the tenure of the award, the awardee must guarantee a 50% time commitment to research. The appointment will be subject to annual reviews. An awardee who receives the MMSF Shaun Lamoureux and Kerry Bittner Clinical Research in Population Health Award is not eligible for other MMSF Salary Awards.</p>
<p>A one-year term grant-in-aid to the appointee of up to $40,000 may be made during the first year of the appointment.</p>
<p>Applicants shall submit a completed Research Module (which has been included in this call notification), along with supporting letters of recommendation, and an up-to-date Curriculum Vitae to <a href="mailto:resmedgrants@umanitoba.ca">resmedgrants@umanitoba.ca</a> no later than 4:00 PM, Friday, March 15, 2024.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><span><span dir="ltr" role="presentation">The Manitoba Medical Service Foundation and the University of Manitoba, invite applications from individuals as candidates for the MMSF Dr. F.W. Du Val and John Henson Clinical Research Professorship Award, to be effective July 1, 2022, or later by arrangement. </span></span></p>
<p><span><span dir="ltr" role="presentation">The intent of the award is to promote clinical research at the University of Manitoba for the general benefit of health research in Manitoba by supporting clinical scientists in the early stages of a successful research career as a health care professional.</span></span></p>
<p><span><span dir="ltr" role="presentation">Candidates must be judged to be in the early stages of a successful research career as a health care professional, have been engaged in independent research for not more than 7 years and should have received one or more grants from a national granting agency, such as the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. He/she/they should have a satisfactory publication record in peer-reviewed journals demonstrating his/her/their career potential.<br />

<p><span><span dir="ltr" role="presentation">Candidates must be physicians or health care professionals licensed to practice in Manitoba with a faculty appointment at the University of Manitoba and must be engaged in research related to the health field.<br />
</span></span></p>
<p><span><span dir="ltr" role="presentation">The Award is given for a period of three years. It may not be held concurrently with another personal career award and is not renewable. The Award consists of a contribution to the awardee&#8217;s salary (including benefits) of $55,000 per annum during the three-year term. Successful candidate(s) must guarantee a 50% time commitment to research. The appointment will be subject to annual reporting using the MMSF Final Report Form. A grant-in-aid to the appointee of up to $20,000 may be made during the first year of the appointment.</span></span></p>

<p>The Winnipeg Foundation Innovation Fund of the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences is a $1,000,000 fund intended to seed innovative interdisciplinary research in the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba. For the next 5 years (2019-2023) up to 1/5th of the fund will be made available on an annual basis. The maximum level of support is $100,000 and may be less (applicants must develop their proposed budgets with these figures in mind). Once expended, unless renewed, the Winnipeg Foundation Innovation Fund of the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences fund will terminate.</p>
<p>The purpose of the Winnipeg Foundation Innovation Fund of the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences is to seed innovative interdisciplinary research in the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences between member departments and colleges. In so doing, it is intended to enhance the University’s national recognition in innovative interdisciplinary research with disruptive impact, as well as competitiveness in terms of national research funding. As such, the Winnipeg Foundation Innovation Fund of the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences is not intended to provide continuing support for ongoing research projects/programs or to serve as a substitute for national funding (e.g. Tri-Agency, NGO, Industry, etc.). The grant team are expected to use the funds awarded to develop their research to the point where applications for external funding can be made.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p class="x_MsoBodyText">Nominations are being sought for a Support Staff Assessor and an Alternate Assessor on the&nbsp;Board of Governors, each for a two-year term commencing on June 1, 2021 and ending on&nbsp;May&nbsp;31, 2023.</p>
<p class="x_MsoBodyText">The&nbsp;position&nbsp;of&nbsp;Support&nbsp;Staff&nbsp;Assessor&nbsp;was&nbsp;created&nbsp;to&nbsp;enable&nbsp;the&nbsp;Board&nbsp;of&nbsp;Governors&nbsp;to&nbsp;benefit&nbsp;from a support staff perspective during its meetings. The Assessor attends meetings of the&nbsp;Board and its Executive Committee, and has the same rights and obligations as a member of&nbsp;the Board and the Executive Committee, except that an Assessor may not make or amend&nbsp;motions, or&nbsp;vote.</p>
<p class="x_MsoBodyText">Duties&nbsp;to&nbsp;the&nbsp;Board&nbsp;include:</p>
<ul>
<li class="x_MsoListParagraph">providing a general support staff perspective on matters brought before the Board</li>
<li class="x_MsoListParagraph">attending and contributing to debate at Board and Executive Committee meetings</li>
<li class="x_MsoListParagraph">participating as a member of ad hoc committees that specify support staff membership</li>
<li class="x_MsoListParagraph">reviewing agenda materials and preparing questions/comments, where appropriate</li>
<li class="x_MsoListParagraph">representing support staff at Board and University functions, such as convocation Duties to Support Staff include:</li>
<li class="x_MsoListParagraph">referring specific matters to the appropriate unit or officer in the University</li>
<li class="x_MsoListParagraph">explaining the role, composition and operation of the Board of Governors</li>
</ul>

<p class="x_MsoBodyText">All full-time support staff are eligible to be elected and to vote, providing their names are on&nbsp;the employee list printed approximately 45 days prior to the election, which will be held on the&nbsp;third&nbsp;Friday in May.</p>
