At the 143rd Spring Convocation, Dr. Mary Jane McCallum encouraged the graduating dental and dental hygiene students to continue pursuing knowledge and wisdom so they can give back to society to make it a better place for those who aren’t yet born

Ojibway Elder Margaret Lavallee called on newly graduated doctors to follow the Seven Sacred Teachings – love, courage, humility, wisdom, honesty, respect and truth – as they leave the UM medical school and start their residencies

On Saturday, May 14, 2022,  10 Black people were killed and three were injured in a horrifying act of anti-Black racism in Buffalo, New York. Adding to the violence and trauma was a 180-page hate-filled manifesto and the social media live-streaming of the mass shooting. As the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, we acknowledge and think of the families and communities who are grieving the loss of their loved ones.

When David Ambrose [BMROT/00] was 10 years old, growing up in Teulon, Man., the first seeds of his career were planted while he watched the Calgary Flames make a run for the Stanley Cup in 1989. It wasn’t hockey legends like Lanny McDonald who caught his attention. Instead, he noticed Bearcat Murray, the team’s athletic trainer, tending to injured players on the ice.

As part of National Nursing Week, a group of students and faculty at the College of Nursing, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences officially launched a new initiative promoting mental health awareness with an engaging virtual event on May 10.

In honour of National Nursing Week, Mahkwa omushki kiim: Pathway to Indigenous Nursing Education (PINE), which offers support to Indigenous students at the College of Nursing in the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, reached out to several Indigenous nursing alumni to learn about their careers and reflections on their time at UM.
