Winnipeg to Host The Hockey Conference 2025

The Hockey Conference is a biennial event dedicated to fostering dialogue and igniting critical scholarship by bringing together a diverse group of hockey scholars, sports leaders, industry professionals, and community members. The twelfth conference will take place at The Fort Garry Hotel in Winnipeg, from June 17-19th, 2025.

Seven Law alumni honoured with King Charles III Coronation Medals

The Faculty of Law proudly congratulates seven of its alumni who were chosen by The Honourable Anita Neville, Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba to receive King Charles III Coronation Medals. These distinguished individuals were among the 55 outstanding Manitobans who were honoured at a formal ceremony at the Manitoba Legislative Building on October 24, 2025.

Exploring New Frontiers in Technology and Law

On October 7 and 8, 2024, 10 law students from the Faculty of Law’ s L. Kerry Vickar Business Law Clinic attended the Canadian Technology Law Association’s (“CAN-TECH”) 2024 Fall Technology Conference in Toronto, Ontario. This was an incredible opportunity for law students to not only learn about the latest developments in technology and law, but to also engage with leading professionals in this space.

Competition Teaches Robson Hall Students Vital Negotiation Skills
October 24, 2024 —
Sixteen teams of University of Manitoba law students competed in the nineteenth annual Robson Hall Negotiation Competition on the evening of October 17th, 2024. These upper-year students were selected for having excelled in the Legal Negotiation course they took in their second year of law school. The main purpose of the competition is to develop superb negotiating skills in Manitoba law students for use in their legal career. All legal training and professional expertise is directed toward one key objective—solving a client’s problems. Negotiation is the primary tool for accomplishing precisely that.

Access to Justice Week brings together stakeholders in the legal community to develop meaningful, public-centred solutions that advance systemic change in the justice system. This week is an opportunity to learn about new initiatives, connect with diverse partners and explore critical access to justice issues from different perspectives. The theme for Manitoba's fourth annual Access to Justice Week is Increasing Impact: Collaboration, Change, and Capacity Building. Together, the Faculty of Law, the Law Society of Manitoba, and the Manitoba Bar Association will offer four free, engaging virtual events open to the public.

Expanding experiential legal training northwards

The Faculty of Law expanded its externship opportunities this year to include a first-ever for-credit Northern Externship. Third-year law student, Brandon Leverick was the ideal candidate for the job, and recently returned from Thompson where he spent the summer flying around northern Manitoba to help provide legal services to remote communities.
