Moot Report 2025: Harold J. Fox Moot – Canadian Intellectual Property Moot : Network News

May 20, 2025 —  This year’s Harold J. Fox Moot team demonstrated excellence in advocacy, collegiality and respect, as demonstrated by the awards they brought home following the February 21 and 22 competition on Intellectual Property, held in Toronto. Maria Pepelassis was the Runner Up (2nd place) for the Donald F. Sim Award for Best Oral Advocate, while the full team of Steven Csincsa (3L), Marianna Pozdirca (2L), Maria Pepelassis (2L), Jordan Wagner (3L), was awarded the inaugural Ronald E. Dimock “Spirit of the Moot” Award.

Home isn’t just a place: How a Malaysian student adjusted to life in Canada : Network News

May 20, 2025 —  Raihanah Rahim’s decision to study in Canada began with a bold proposal to her parents. After finishing high school at 17 and completing her A-Levels, she found herself facing limited university options in Malaysia. The schools her parents considered "good" didn’t offer her admission, and private universities were simply too expensive. She presented an alternative: “If you really want me to go to university, I want to study in either Canada or Australia.” Between the two, Canada stood out for its educational opportunities and welcoming approach to immigrants after graduation.

Faculty of Law Spring Reception honours exceptional contributions of practicing bar and bench : Network News

May 20, 2025 —  The Faculty of Law was pleased to host its annual community-building Spring Reception on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, where five new Jurists of Robson Hall were honoured, along with two recipients of the Faculty’s annual Alumni awards. In a jam-packed evening that honoured practicing professional instructors, moot competition coaches, mentors, externship supervisors and volunteers, the Faculty also presented its inaugural Externship Supervisor Award. The Manitoba Law Foundation announced a $4.5 million grant it has made to the Faculty to create transformative bursaries to ensure a diverse future practicing bar. Guests were also invited to tour the student areas of Robson Hall to see the many recent changes including a giant mural created by Indigenous artist and second-year law student, Jessie Canard.
